Svartifoss waterfall

This waterfall is located in Vatnajokull National Park and is characterized by black basalt columns. In fact, its name means “black waterfall” in Icelandic.

The waterfall is about 20 meters high, and its water falls from a wall of hexagonal basalt columns, giving the impression of natural architecture. Svartifoss is also known for being an inspiration for the design of Hallgrímskirkja, a famous church in Reykjavik, due to its unique shape and basalt columns reminiscent of Gothic architecture.
