Pak Khlong Talat, literally meaning “market at the mouth of the canal,” is Bangkok’s largest wholesale and retail flower market and one of the largest in the world.

I went in the evening, but the market is open 24 hours a day, and the best time is at night, when the flowers arrive. You can also see florists making floral arrangements.

The site has a fascinating history dating back to the reign of Rama I (1782–1809), when it was a floating market on the Chao Phraya River. In the 19th century, it was transformed into a fish market, until local authorities, tired of the fishy smell pervading central Bangkok, decided to allow flower and produce vendors to settle in the area in the 1950s. This transition gradually transformed the site into the major flower market we know today, establishing itself as a permanent facility for over 60 years.
The market represents a place of symbolic value for the people of Bangkok and remains deeply rooted in daily life and local Buddhist traditions.

The market is a riot of colors, colorful flowers, both local and imported
