Seljalandsfoss is one of the most spectacular and unique waterfalls in Iceland, in my opinion a waterfall that absolutely must be seen. What makes it unique is that you can walk underneath it, making it a very special experience.
The waterfall cascades down a height of about 60 meters from the Seljalandsá River, which originates from the meltwater of the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic glacier. The waterfall is an extraordinary example of Icelandic geology: erosion has created a natural cave behind the waterfall, allowing visitors to admire the surrounding landscape through a curtain of water. This phenomenon was created because the ancient cliff, which once reached directly to the ocean, was gradually eroded by the water.
The first tip for your visit is to wear a raincoat and hiking shoes. Be careful when walking under the waterfall, as it’s easy to slip and get wet.
The waterfall is easily accessible and is located along the ring road.
